A Little disclosure I was born and raised in New York City in east after, after my mother died I spent six months San Francisco and the problem i noticed with both cities is not the result of socialism as this Forbes article would like you to think but it is the rise of the tech industry, cost of living and greedy executives that have led to the fall of brick-and-mortar businesses.
It’s much easier to use companies, like Tee spring, Etsy, Posh mark, Amazon eBay Instagram shop Shopify and Facebook Marketplace rather than having a store with employees you have to pay, in addition you also have companies like we work and kettle space who have taken over Office Space in order to disrupt the rising real estate cost.
In the past years, we have seen places like FAO Schwarz, Toys R Us, Sears and Payless shoe store file for bankruptcy we are also seeing other places like Duane Reade and Burger king ultimately disappearing we have even seen Duane Reade’s has shut down to cut down cost after their merger with CVS.
Due to the rising cost of real estate in New York and San Francisco, it is becoming extremely difficult even for the small business owner to keep their doors open unless their grocery stores, however, thanks to some tech companies like uber Postmates and other delivery apps it may be easier to continue to expand their Horizon.
For example, unlike Uber, Postmates delivers a wide variety of items it’s not just Foods they’ve also been contracted by 7-Eleven now and Apple if they can find a way to contract with clothing stores like Target and old navy that would increase overall productivity, sales and work.
In conclusion, it is a rise of uncontrollable gentrification and the simplification of the tech industry that has caused the fall of brick and mortar and not the so-called socialism.
