Amazon raises minimum-wage to $15 an hour

Three months from now the minimum wage will be $15 an hour, Amazon has chosen to pay it’s workers that in one month.

Is this a good strategy? Yes

By preemptively raising the minimum wage they will lead in popularity it will boost productivity Which increases profits.

However it does not tell me about sacrificing Amazon has cut monthly bonuses and stock awards hey not many people are happy about this decision, there is a good chance those programs could be restored.

Amazon is one of the major companies to do this it’s not the first there are small businesses, Hornblower a company that provides boat tours, party boats ferry services pays above minimum wage as well as small businesses.

This change does not come without its critics Some small businesses I don’t feel like they can afford a $15 an hour Minimum wageSome are planning to cut hours raise prices on their product and switch over to automation and Sean are even closing up shop and going for drop shipping.

Minimum-wage alone won’t fix the problem we have to keep up with inflation which means affordable housing, Bringing back rent control and setting regulations against price gouging and hmos and tax incentives two small businesses and landlords that charge affordable rates.

We also need to start educating our kids early and providing them skills for the world in addition to sex education and money management encourage apprenticeship and careers based education.

that’s all I have if you want to sign up for Uber or postmates and try Instacart as soon as I can get on I’ll do a review check out my other job app reviews support me on Amazon or PayPal.

  • Why 7-Eleven self-service hot dogs doesn’t work

7-Eleven has added self service hotdogs to their stores this although it may seem like a good idea it’s not I contest to that claim

Wednesday September 12,2018 I stopped at a 7-Eleven ordered 2 hotdogs which I suspected wasn’t ready but because I’m a glutton for punishment I ate them anyway.

Immediately after eating the 2 hotdogs I felt Ill so I rushed home instead of continuing my side job with postmates.

Later that day I went to the bank to deposit money unfortunately The nearest restaurant I was close to was across the street I exploded before I hit the seat.

Now as a person who’s worked in the food service industry I know the difference between a hot dog that’s cooked and one that’s only half way done this was one of those cases.

The temperature of the hot dogs are supposed to be checked with a food thermometer which looks like this

The temperature for a hotdog has to be between 140 and 165 for safe consumption. If this isn’t it could have tragic and dire consequences such as food poisoning or salmonella.

    The symptoms of salmonella includes

    • Diarrhea
    • Fever
    • vomiting
    • dehydration
    • Fever

These are serious issues that should have been addressed before doing such a thing and that’s not the only issue with the stores that has to be addressed such as cross contamination in the condiment section like for example the utensils that are being used for the onions being shared in the tomato’s or thejalapeño mixed with the pickles each condiment needs it’s own utensils like this

Safety is important when it comes anything especially when it comes everything especially when it comes to food, remember these rules before serving

    • Wash your hands
    • never reuse the same glove
    • If you don’t have gloves use wax paper
    • Check the temperature before serving
    • Follow hot and cold holding tips
    • Don’t depend on hand sanitizer alone

24 hours To hell and back Shermans

OK in episode 4 of 24 hours to hell and back Gordon Ramsay visits a 30 year old antique restaurant called Shermans in Greenville, MS even Came with it’s own chef and was bought in 2012 by current owners peter and Allison nimrod Who decided to leave well enough alone and kept not only the name but everything in it including Steve the most overpriced item in the restaurant earning $90,000.00 a year, weekly is about this much without dependents give or take

The owners at this point were bleeding money they barely had any customer and everything was starting to fall apart.

Gordon Ramsay Went undercover to investigate with surveillance cameras and a disguise he took a few local farmer out to lunch so he can blend in what he found was even more disturbing everything was microwave Steve had not updated his pallet the kitchen was under unsanitary conditions such as the top of the warming lamps being caked in dirt, Greasy outlet, the grease catcher was caked in grease and the charred pan hadn’t been clean, The only thing that was up to date was the POS system and the 5 microwaves that they used consistently.

    Cross contamination

Meat and fish being bathed in the same sink as the pots and pans that are washed with soap and water in addition to being cooked on the same grill. Please remember food must be kept separated from cleaning supplies as well as other meats.

    https://youtu.be/yiNTqUU-h6w

    Constructive criticisms

One of the mistakes that Alison made is she was very defensive with the reviews and often responded in a negative way. So here are 4 steps to responding to a negative reviews

    1. Listen, breathe, Don’t refer to them negatively (haters) and don’t take it personal
    2. Kindly apologize and thank them for pointing out what potentially needs to change
    3. Ensure them by telling them how your going to fix it
    4. Makes it right. Invite them back For a meal on the house
  • Make the changes that need to made
  • Essentially I actually liked her original idea at this point Gordon Ramsey had ordered another employee to be fired instead of trying to place the employee in a different position however you can’t argue with Gordon Ramsey well you can but you’ll lose.
  • One employee was fired and one was promoted and rightfully so.
  • they had their first successful dinner service and there still open till this day.
  • 24 hours to hell and back Brownstone bistro

In episode three of 24 hours to hell and back we follow a Cajun restaurant in the heart of Los Angeles, the owner Clive jackson who is broken, a man who’s dedicated not just to his work but to his community and family.

His desire to save at risk youth After his only son was robbed of his life while he was waiting for a bus the man held his son in his arms and blamed himself.

He wasn’t only about to lose his business but his family and his relationship with his wife and daughter this place needed saving.

Let’s get down to some of the issues

    Big deals

    1. Cleanliness
    2. Guest first
    3. Respect
    4. Outdated system
    5. Temperature control
    6. Health standards
    7. Lack of training

    Subtle issues

    1. Employees on their cellphone while on duty

I am more concerned with guest interaction then employees being on their cell phones

As it Gordon Ramsay sat down the first thing he noticed was No one greeting customers at the front door, staff openly on their cellphone and absolutely no engaging with the customers, they failed to bring out all the food at once and then you have the managers cold demeanor

The wings were cold, they served processed cheese and The presentation of the food was horrendous while the inside the kitchen was a whole different story.

As discussed in several of my blogs guests are a priority hence guest first remember guest service

    • Greet
    • Usher
    • Engage
    • Smile
    • Thank

    S mile

    E ye contact

    R espect

    V alue the time

    I nitiate guest contact

    C reate service solutions

E nd with a thank you

I am all for employees expelling energy while it’s slow so as long as its in a productive manner.

Examples every service job I’ve had weather it was

    1. Alcatraz
    2. Hornblower
    3. American outlet
    4. AMC
    5. Toys R Us
    6. Mars2112

I spent time engaging current and potential customers and guest. I try to entertain the guests waiting online those were some of the best moments.

You can also find other examples at Jekyll and Hyde club a theme restaurant in New York City where waiters and characters engaged in song and dance.

So if you’re the waitstaff and everything that needs to be done is already done be creative and engage guests

    Cell phone usage

Do not use your Cellphone in public unless you are reaching out to potential customers if it’s an emergency go to a private location like the bathroom or the break room same as if your eating or smoking

    Temperature control

Check the temperature inside freezer if you can’t see your breath or you can still feel your face it’s not that cold enough and you need to check the number on the panel.

With Cooked meat it’s important that you check the temperature do not under cook or over cook food parasites, germs and bacteria are attracted to certain temperatures make sure you read the guide lines.

First in first out When in doubt throw it out

Very important make sure everything is dated where you can see it, do not serve food that’s expired and before you serve food if it’s not something you would give to your family let alone your pet don’t serve it when in doubt throw it out.

    The kitchen

Be sure to clean everything before you leave throw out the grease, clean out the vents and trays this could mean the difference between life and death a paycheck or law suit

    Passion over paycheck

If you were working and you are not going to give it your best or show your interest for the job then leave.

    Pos systems

It is the 20th century we are passed the era of writing by hand you have companies like toast, Presto and touch bistros

    Renovate, Revamp and renew

Change the decor, create a new menu and renew your image. Remember Community is important, you’re not in it alone, get rid of dead weight and work with a team (team work makes the dream work)

Lastly take care of yourself and your employees get rid of dead weight

    Minimum wage and higher education

For several years there has been this movement calling for a living wage that maybe reasonable for big corporation.

companies like Disney have raised their minimum wage voluntarily and continually providing discounts and services just for working for them Like tuition and housing.

Most companies provide benefits to its employees that don’t get taken advantage of

    1. McDonald’s
    2. Walmart
    3. Target
    4. Chipotle
    5. Verizon
    6. Home Depot
    7. Chase
  • So instead of staying stagnant and calling for $15 an hour when you can’t even serve food correctly Between expired parfait and soupy coffee, work at a place you’re passionate about whether it be marketing customer service hospitality and take advantage of their tuition programs are use our places you want to spend the rest your life at.

    Employ the homeless

OK I want to talk about something that holds true to my heart in June 2016 I had the pleasure and opportunity to learn and spend time with people in need and help addicts there is a nonprofit agency by the name of victory outreach ministries

they run several rehabilitation homes and training centers across the world. these programs that are available to assist people to get off drugs and alcohol they also provide them with on the job training and life skills to assist them to get their lives back on track.

    It’s done in 2 phases

    phase 1

they work with you for six months to year after you graduate you’ll be in you’ll get extensive studies, counseling and learn skills to go back out into the job market.

phase 2 which consist of a sober living environment where you begin seeking employment in the meantime you will have people who are going to work with you so that you won’t go back to drugs and alcohol.

Training centers are completely different, The urban training centers provide education and training for those who seek to go out to become missionaries and pioneers to build churches and rehabilitation homes and to assist those in need and to help stop gang violence.

These training centers are located in Strategic cities in the world.

Why do I speak of this you may ask It’s because in order to get the homeless off the street, people off drugs, children back in the arms of sober parents and gangs to die out we need to start doing this and with our immigrant population slowly fading away due to the trump administration farmers and other corporation may be able to take advantage of this rather than the immigrants that are desperate to Come into this country and work. if you’re a business and you need workers utilize services Provided by nonprofit organization you’d be assisting them in learning new skills that they can take too the workplace and begin to have dignity, self-respect and self worth.

This is a great opportunity to make a difference especially if you want to help the homeless people and addicts that take away from your business rather then give into it, by doing this you are helping veterans, homeless people, at risk youth and reformed people.

    Customer service

Let me start by saying I have been working in the service industry for over 10 years I have stayed in hotels and eaten at several restaurants, been to several movie theaters even worked at one.

With that being said I believe Customer/ guest service is one of the most crucial aspects of any business.

Today were going to go over several aspects of customer/guest service

    1. Acknowledge your guest when you first see them preferably as soon as they come in the door Embrace them with a smile and a warm welcome
    2. Be approachable, Post posture is important try not to lean never cross your arms
    3. Create a fun atmosphere for everyone be playful but not too playful be energetic do not be sloppy
    4. Always be objective and understanding to the customers concerns and complaints.
    5. Be consistent with customer rules of conduct and policy that has been set in place emergencies in special circumstances may apply
    6. When ever you make a mistake make sure you fix it do not get upset do not blame the customer or the messenger (cases of couriers)
    7. Be courteous, be mindful and be on time.
    8. Specifically for apps make sure you have a way for us to reach you I Purchased McDonald’s two weeks ago never received my order and I still haven’t gotten word back from them I have a better response time with lyft and Uber
